This morning, we walked about a half hour to get to church. The path right by the church was really steep without much to hold on to, and the rain from the morning made it a bit slippery, too. But we all managed. This church was very informal. We sang a few songs in Tok Pisin and one or two in Tok Ples, they shared prayer requests, one of the men gave a sermon, and some men and women prayed. Several women there breast fed their babies during church. One mother's three(?)-year-old son was getting jealous that his baby brother was getting fed, and so he threw a tantrum. It was very hard to concentrate on the service! Another mother's little boy was stark naked, had sores on his back and thigh, and scratched his head like he had lice. Many of the children have malnutrition, due to a lack of protein in their diets. This one boy looked especially sad. He just stared with wide eyes and wouldn't smile. The exercise this morning felt really good, but we were hungry when we got back around 2pm. Carl and Pat made a chocolate cake for Canada Day (which was July 1) and Independence Day (U.S. - July 4). We had popcorn, dried fruit, canned plums, and cake for dinner. I got to play around with Corel Draw a bit today on Carl's compunter. I also practiced guitar a bit. I think I have a little bit of a cold... funny how Tabitha's note to me for this week was a prayer partly for my health. Thank you, God
